Research on Ethnic Diversity amongst suppliers of Legal Aid services
MDA carried out a race equality impact assessment for the Legal Services Commission on its proposals for changing the way in which it procures criminal defence services. The research focussed on the impact that the introduction of competitive tendering could have on BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) law firms in England and Wales. The research findings and its recommendations have been considered both by the LSC and Lord Carter of Coles in his review of Legal Aid Procurement and will influence the design of future contracts for criminal defence services. The publication can be found at the following link on the Legal Services Commission website.
